Casting By premieres on HBO tonight

The newest installment from HBO Docs is Casting By, a journey through the last fifty years of Hollywood from the casting perspective.  Marion Dougherty is the foremost casting director and she took some amazing actors from obscure to household names like James Dean, Glenn Close and Robert Redford.

Dougherty had contacts from Broadway & Off-Broadway productions and she headed off to Hollywood with them in the 70’s after she had become the head of casting at Paramount Pictures.  She drew from her experiences in New York and ended up having a strong hand in reshaping the way Hollywood cast films as it moved away from the old studio system.  Later in her career she was hired by Warner Brothers where she spent more than two decades of her career of more than 50 years.  See below for a trailer & check it out tonight on HBO at 9:00, on reruns or On Demand.
