First Comes Love premieres on HBO tonight

Next up from HBO Docs it's the latest chapter in Nina Davenport's autobiographical work, First Comes Love which chronicles her journey of becoming a single mother with some help from a gay friend's sperm and her best friend Amy.  The story doesn't end there though, we get to see her dating while pregnant plus all the mayhem that follows becoming a first time parent.  In 2000 Nina started her story with "Always a Bridesmaid" where she drew upon her experience as a wedding videographer & the terrible relationship she had with her noncommittal boyfriend to take a closer look at her generation's anxieties about tying the knot.  

This installment is honest, funny & moving as we look at her journey from hormone injections to the chaos that comes from becoming a parent.  First Comes Love premieres tonight at 9:00 on HBO with plenty of reruns to follow so check your local listings & get this on your DVR.  See below for a preview.

The Cheshire Murders tonight on HBO

Next up in the HBO Docs Summer Series it's The Cheshire Murders which tells the story of the murders that took place in Cheshire Connecticut in 2007 when ex-convicts Steven Hayes and Joshua Komisarjevsky broke into the home of the Petit family.  The husband Dr. William Petit was beaten & tied up in the basement while his wife & two daughters were tied up in their bedrooms.  The ex-cons ransacked the house and ended the entire ordeal with rape, murder & arson.  

The documentary uses exclusive interviews which reveal shocking police failures and untold personal dramas behind the Cheshire murders case.  Much of this story was hidden from the public and the hidden failures reveal that this crime could have been prevented at many turns.  Throughout the documentary we hear from the victims and perpetrators' friends and families plus lawyers, mental health professionals & journalists involved in the case.  The documentary takes us from the morning of the crime to the death penalty trials 5 years later.

The Cheshire Murders premieres tonight on HBO at 9:00 with ample reruns in case you have other things to watch...don't forget to set your DVR.  Check out the trailer below.

The Crash Reel premieres tonight

The Crash Reel is directed by two-time Oscar nominee Lucy Walker and it's about the American snowboarding champion Kevin Pearce who suffered a traumatic brain injury in 2009.  Pearce was having his best season ever and training to challenge his friend-turned-rival Shaun White in the 2010 Olympics when he suffered the injury which left him in a coma & a very long process of getting used to a lifelong disability.

The documentary shares footage that had been filmed over two decades to show his close-knit family and friends and the soul of this high stakes extreme sport.  The Crash Reel is an exhilarating ride through Pearce's world and shouldn't be missed.  It premieres tonight at 9:00 on HBO & was an official selection of the 2013 Sundance Film Festival and won the Audience Award at South by Southwest Film Festival.

Cory Monteith sadly found dead, age 31

Vancouver police have confirmed that Cory Monteith, the 31 year old star of the hit show Glee was found dead in his hotel room.  Cory neglected to check out at Noon when he was supposed to & when the hotel went to check on him he was found dead & alone & it was presumed that he had been dead for several hours.  The Vancouver police aren't releasing any information regarding what was found inside the room but he was seen returning to his room alone in the early morning hours after a night out with some friends.  Monteith had previously attended rehab for drug problems twice but there is no information as to whether or not drugs played any role in his death though the Vancouver police have indicated that foul play is not suspected.  Monteith was the boyfriend of Lea Michele who also starred in Glee & he will be sadly missed by so many.  My thoughts & prayers go out to his family friends & Michele during this horrific time.
