Kids are putting us to shame!

So...as most of you know I don't care for children...they are perpetually loud & sticky & I don't have time for either.  Here's the thing...kids on cooking shows aren't like your run of the mill kids, sure they are probably sticky but only because they just made you a meal, otherwise they are like well adjusted adults in small bodies.  Yes, they cry but they are kids so they are supposed to be overly emotional but what they don't do is tear each other down, act immaturely, or behave like "poor sports" and that is why I watch these shows.

Last season I started watching MasterChef Jr. and the kids on that show are amazing...the food they cook is the kind of stuff I see on menus & don't order because it's too complicated.  Now, I'm certainly not much of a cook...I know my way around a chicken breast but I'm not very creative nor do I know what most things are actually called.  It just boggles my mind that a 6 year old even knows how to make sausage let alone kangaroo sausage!  I wouldn't have a clue where to begin, what spices to include, how to grind & case it...it's amazing to watch them do this stuff without recipes or guidance.

Well last night I checked out the first two episodes of Kids Baking Championship & man do those kids know what's up.  I love to bake & it can take me a good couple hours to make 1 thing & they had 2 hours to make 3 things.  In the first episode they made tarts, pies, cheesecakes, cookies, cupcakes & more...I was totally blown away.  In the second they had to make impostor desserts...they made things like sushi, burgers, pizza, etc. out of things like cupcakes, fondant, cookies & so on.  Not only did their dessert have to look like the food they were assigned it actually had to taste good too & they all did such a good job!

Anyway, we all need to step up our game because let me tell you...I wouldn't know how to make brownies into the right consistency to be able to crumble them up to look like beef nor do I even know what salmon en croute actually is let alone how to make it.  Hopefully my friends kids will be able to teach me a thing or two over the years!!
