Ramblings about TV shows, most of which I'm sick of

As we’re moving through the spring season I have to take a moment to talk some TV.  I don't know if it's me or what but shows just really don't hold my interest as much as they used to...probably because they aren't Breaking Bad & nothing compares to that.  First up, I’ve dumped Bates Motel…the show just plain sucks.  The first season was good, we got to see where it all started with Norman & his mother except it’s in current times not when it should be & that has always bothered me.  Anyway, I watched the first episode & the after show & I recorded the 2nd but by the time the 3rd aired the 2nd was still hanging out on the DVR which tells me…you’re just not that into this show.

The next show I’m noticing that’s starting to spend more and more time on the DVR & less and less time pouring into my eyeballs is Revenge.  The first season of that show was so good but now it’s just getting more & more soap opera like with too many story lines to follow & it’s just plain dumb.  I find myself reading magazines or playing with my phone when it is on because I don’t really care…just kill the entire Grayson family (or Emily) & be done with it.  Half of the plot twists are just so unbelievable & unrealistic that I’m no longer entertained I’m just always saying things like “oh come on” or “as if” at my TV when I’m watching.  This brings me to my next thing…The People’s Couch.

The People’s Couch is freaking awesome & I want to be on it…sure, I live alone BUT I am always talking to the TV & or my dog.  The dog doesn’t offer much feedback but she’s still someone to talk to.  Long before this show started I said I was going to set up a webcam & let people watch me watch TV & then said “like anyone would, how dumb” and like 3 years later this show pops up!  My only peeve about the show is that you have to live in CA to be on it…not sure why though as that makes no sense to me at all.  The old ladies that were added this season crack me up as does the family who watches in bed, they are a trip.

Chrisley…dude…that guy is gay, annoying, controlling & funny…I hate this show; I watched the first 2 episodes & felt so bad for the family I couldn’t keep watching.  His one liners are not enough to keep me tuned in!

I’m still recording & watching Hannibal but it’s so gross I don’t know if I can keep it up…I spend so much time covering my eyes it’s getting a little pointless to watch not to mention that it confuses the shit out of me, I have no clue what’s going on half the time.

How I Met Your Mother…only 2 episodes left until I am free of this Godforsaken shitty excuse for entertainment.  Last season I watched every episode thinking “I can’t do this next season, this has run its course” and then they said this would be the last season so I opted to finish what I started & every week is like torture.  The show hasn’t been funny in many years, the story falters all the time as various points don’t connect in relation to the outcome & all in all, the only thing funny on this show is NPH.  Then in the last episode there was 1 funny joke & it warranted no laughs from the “audience”…when Lily made the remark about not wanting Marshall to have to look at her tattoo every year on his birthday.  Hello…she’s talking about him getting anal for his birthday as the tattoo was on her back…that’s the funniest joke the show has ever had & it fell completely flat which just tells me that the editors don’t even find it funny anymore!

Is anyone else shocked that Married to Medicine is coming back to Bravo? I sure am & I’m surprised any of those women are still doctors…you couldn’t pay me to see any of them & I would think that the show would ruin their careers.  This also reminds me that I'm glad to see Blood Sweat & Heels go...that one was awful but then again so was Married to Medicine so maybe it will be renewed but I hope not.

Hannibal & How to Live With Your Parents...I watched them

First up new this week was How to Live With Your Parents (For the Rest of Your Life) which I recorded & was expecting to not like.  I'm not the biggest fan of Sarah Chalke to begin with but I do like Brad Garrett & Elizabeth Perkins so I figured I'd check it out.  I'm happy I did record this because I really enjoyed it...I even liked the kid which is just unheard of for me.  There were a couple things that I thought were stupid or confusing like at the beginning Polly (Chalke) and her kid arrive at the home of her mom & step-dad because Polly left her husband Julian so they need a place to stay.  They are in an old beat up VW Bug & both look a mess & they happen to catch the fun loving, always drinking, never serious parents in the middle of some one on one time.  The show flashes to 6 months later & Polly has a job at a smoothie place & a brand new VW Bug, the parents are exactly the same & the ex Julian is always at the house.

If she can afford a brand new car then whey are they still living with the parents?  If she was leaving her husband then why he is always at the house?  It's only been 6 months & she's already divorced & dating...this was confusing to me because we all know that's never the case & if she is still so chummy with her recent ex-husband then why did they divorce?  It's pretty clear from the first episode that Julian still loves her & that she still has feelings for him too...not just because he's the father of her kid but because she always has.  All in all, this show is funny, the parents are the best part & I plan to continue watching it but it has the possibility of getting really old really fast.  I also wish the name were about 10 words shorter!

Next up is Hannibal...this show was beyond confusing for the first 20 minutes & well I guess was confusing all the way through.  First off I can't tell when this show is supposed to take place...theoretically it should take place in the 80's but I believe I saw a smart phone involved at one point so this must take place in current times.  I don't like these shows that are made from movies (which in this case were based on books to begin with) & change the time frame of things like Bates Motel...Norman Bates & Hannibal Lecter wouldn't have had iPhones...period.  So anyway, I thought this show was about Hannibal Lecter but really it's not, it's about a special agent/teacher named Will who has the ability to empathize with serial killers & put himself in their mind frame to figure out why/what they are doing.  This is the most confusing part because you think something is happening but really it's not, he's just thinking it so then the next time something awful happens you think he's just thinking it but it's really happening.

In the first case they are on the trail of a cannibal & we see Hannibal cutting up lungs (which was unsettling & disgusting) & assume they are looking for him but no they aren't...they actually use Hannibal to assist with the case.  I"m assuming that he's not yet "Hannibal the Cannibal" or he would be in prison & not still seeing patients.  Apparently he's also being used to keep an eye on Will as a patient but it seemed to me like Will wasn't aware of this & neither were we.  As I sit here thinking about the episode I'm even more confused than I was watching it...I don't know why Hannibal is even on the show because it's not really about him, it's about Will.  Laurence Fishburne plays Agent Jack Crawford who in Silence of the Lambs was white & middle aged...now he's black & older than middle aged & it's 20+ years later?  Honestly, the time frame is the most difficult of all of this...they have taken characters we know & muddled them all together to make some TV show that doesn't relate to all of the other stories that we already read/watched decades ago!!  For instance, in Silence of the Lambs, Crawford was younger than Lecter and in this TV Show he's older...Silence was made in 1991...it's now 2013 & as I said the show seems to take place in current times.

I think I might just be too much of a realist for this TV Show...I will give it 3 episodes like I do every show I try but based on just the 1 I'm not much of a fan yet.  The show is full of creepy & gross & some scary too but overall it's just full of confusion.

NBC Fall Premieres

Matthew Perry is back with a new show called Go On which seems like a comedy to me...it's about a guy who's wife died & he is forced by his boss to join a support group before he can return to work. On his first day he ends up turning the group into a one up session of who has the best sob story & the show goes from there.  Personally I don't really see how this could keep going and going but from the preview it just kind of seems like Monica died & Chandler is moving on...the role is perfect for him. Special premiere after the Olympics on 8/8 & regular slot premiere at 9:00 on Sept. 11

Justin Bartha will be starring in his own sitcom The New Normal which also has cast Ellen Barkin who plays Goldie's mom.  Justin & his gay partner live in LA & want a baby...enter Goldie who has just moved there with her little girl to get away from her mom & she decides to be the surrogate for the guys.  After 9 months this show will kind of lose it's point right?  9:30 on Sept. 11

Animal Practice is another comedy starring Justin Kirk from Weeds & he plays an animal doctor who's animal hospital is being taken over by his ex.  He's terrible with people but great with animals & there's a capuchin monkey on the show too...not really sure what else to say about this one.  Special premiere after the Olympics on 8/12 & regular slot premiere at 8:00 on Sept. 26.

Guys with Kids is a sitcom about guys in their 30's who are now parents but are trying to hold on to their youth too.  Jimmy Fallon is the Executive Producer behind this one which stars Anthony Anderson so I'm sure it will be funny. Sneak peak 10:00 Sept. 12 & regular slot premeire at 8:30 on Sept. 26.

Anne Heche is a suburban wife who's husband cheats (not sure if she knows or not) in the new series Save Me. After Beth (Heche) has a near death experience she suddenly becomes a prophet with a direct line to God.  I think this one is a drama with a touch of humor so I'll be curious to see how this unfolds.  No premiere date/time yet announced.

1600 Penn is a new comedy starring Bill Pullman & Jenna Elfman & their family...they are the first family & Jenna is the step-mom to Bill's kids.  The kids are a handful to say the least (I know at least 1 is in college) so not only does dad need to keep the house together he also has to keep the country together.  No premiere date/time yet announced.

Next Caller is a series starring Dane Cook who plays a foulmouthed radio DJ...your Howard Stern type of character.  He is not happy when he finds out that he has to share his show "Booty Calls with Cam Dunne" with an NPR feminist co-host.  Hmm, I wonder if they will end up together?  Seems a bit predictable but I do like Dane Cook so I'll check it out.  No premiere date/time yet announced.

Revolution is the new series that we've been seeing previews of for quite some time, it's the one where all the power goes out so I'm not going to say any more about this one since I know you have already heard.  10:00 on Sept. 17th.

Another fire drama is coming to TV...now that Rescue Me is over someone has to try to take its place.  This is called Chicago Fire & it's about the drama of the department of firefighters, paramedics & the like who all work to get along & save lives. 10:00 on October 10th.

A new drama called Do No Harm is about a Neurosurgeon who has an alternate personality who goes out in the middle of the night & causes all kinds of havoc.  Waking up with a bunch of half naked women he doesn't know is the first sign that his alter ego has returned...he had been suppressed for some time due to an experimental serum that his body has now built up a resistance to.  His alter ego is now out to take him down!  Sounds a little like United States of Tara to me which I miss so I might have to try this one. No premiere date/time yet announced.

Infamous is kind of hard to explain in my own words...it's a drama about a socialite who dies of an overdose & her former BFF shows up at the funeral & the family takes her back into their fold. A detective thinks that the overdose was a murder and starts investigating the former BFF & so on.  No premiere date/time yet announced.

Hannibal...there's nothing more to say here except it is about what you think it's about...Dr. Hannibal Lecter & where it all began.  No premiere date/time yet announced.

For clips from all of these (except Hannibal, nothing is out yet) check out my YouTube channel's playlist!
