Nothing cancelled yet...
So, while no shows have been cancelled yet this season we are also at a point where none of the new shows have been renewed for another season yet either. I assume that by this time next week we will be hearing about shows that have been cancelled or aren't likely to have a second season. Here's some information by network for what isn't currently doing so hot per ratings:
ABC
Private Practice
666
Last Resort
CBS
Made In Jersey
Partners
CW
Nothing is in jeopardy here
FOX
The Mob Doctor
NBC
Animal Practice
Up All Night
Props for Go On and also for Revolution who both received the green light to finish up their first season which is a good sign so early on so if you ask me I'm thinking that if their ratings keep up they will be renewed for second seasons. I also think it's funny that I don't watch either show! I checked out Revolution & reviewed it here and I have watched one or two episodes of Go On but for some reason I guess it didn't stick.
As for other shows and their renewal status here's what's up, the following shows have already been renewed:
Big Bang Theory, American Dad, Family Guy, The Simpsons
The following shows are in their finale seasons:
Gossip Girl, Fringe, 30 Rock, The Office

Older sitcoms vs. newer sitcoms...
So as I've mentioned before I'm currently unemployed and looking for work hint hint, so if you want to buy my blog or hire me to write for your site hit the "contact me" tab at the top. Anyway, since I'm not working I've got plenty of time to watch Netflix, TV, Movies, DVD's and the like so I've been watching some of the shows I used to watch when I was a kid like Family Ties, Who's the Boss, Designing Women, Doogie Howser and longing for others like Mr. Belvedere and Silver Spoons, and I've been thinking about how those shows differ from those of today.
There aren't that many sitcoms on the air now that I watch but I do enjoy Modern Family, How I Met Your Mother, 2 Broke Girls, Parks and Rec, Raising Hope & a few others. Since reality TV has taken over I'm not surprised that half of the sitcoms on the air now are made to appear like reality shows such as Modern Family and The Office. The sitcoms of my youth were usually a glimpse at a work or family environment that MIGHT appear in reality & some had a twist like Who's the Boss. A show about a housekeeper with a kid & a family is a good idea but make it a male housekeeper & a single mom & you've got a hit on your hands!!
I guess the biggest difference I've noticed is that sitcoms now don't necessarily have lessons where the old ones almost always did. I can't remember the last time I saw a good old sitcom episode about a kid getting busted smoking or drinking or stealing although I have enjoyed a couple awkward moments of parents finding out about their kids intimate encounters. Speaking of kids I need to make a side note...there are so many shows that have kids when they appear in like 1 out of 10 episodes, like Everybody Loves Raymond so I'm always thinking "why are there kids on this show?" and then there are shows that ruin themselves by adding kids like Mad About You. I just needed to point out that if there are kids they need to be more of a focus & add value to the show like Raising Hope.
Back to the lessons, one of my favorite episodes of Roseanne is when Becky gets her & her friend drunk at the house while her parents are out...it's called "One for the Road" and it's hilarious but clearly provides lessons. Lesson 1 is don't have a liquor cabinet without a lock if you have kids, lesson 2 is that getting drunk will make you feel like shit the next day, and lesson 3 is that even if you cover up what you did you won't get away with it in the end. Occasionally a sitcom now will have a lesson or two like the Halloween episode of Modern Family which taught us to change into our Halloween costumes at work rather than arriving already dressed in them!
Clearly, sitcoms have changed over the years because I've watched many an episode of I Love Lucy and the like and comparing those shows to those on the air now would be hilarious. So much has changed since then, on Dick Van Dyke & Lucy they slept in twin beds & now gay people kiss...could you imagine Laverne & Shirley accidentally hooking up one night? Anyway, I welcome new shows but I want more of them rather than more reality competition shows & I miss a lot of the aspects of the older sitcoms and would like to see more of that in the new shows. Most importantly I want to laugh out loud during every episode & not feel like I just lost a half hour of my life...that's why I gave up The Office & 30 Rock! I cannot wait for this fall season to kick in & see what the networks have in store because the previews don' mean anything.

I Give Up!
Generally, when I start watching a show I'll give it 3 episodes & if I pick it up I stick it out until the series ends but there are some that I've walked out on after a few seasons like Grey's Anatomy & Gossip Girl. As this season(s) is drawing to a close I'm realizing that I have already walked away from quite a few shows & that I plan to give up even more too. My big question to myself is why? Is it me or is it the shows that suck? Take 30 Rock for example...this season was not worth the wait, what happened to the writing? I haven't laughed out loud once yet this whole season because nobody is funny or interesting, has the show overstayed its welcome? Anyway, here's a list of what I'm walking away from (or already have) this season:
I'm sure as the spring/summer (off) season gets going some more shows will be added to this list...especially considering all of the Bravo & other reality TV I watch that I'm probably forgetting all about!
- 2 & A Half Men - Ashton sucks, this is now Kelso meets the Harpers
- 30 Rock - So NOT funny this season
- The Office - Hasn't been funny in years
- Desperate Housewives (I would have left last year but this is the final season, thank God) - same old crap season after season
- Weeds - So dumb since season 3
- Community - Brita & Jeff...nuff said!
- Pan Am (I don't think season 2 will exist but I walked after 3 episodes) - Boring
- America's Next Top Model - I DVR & only watch the photo shoot & judging, I don't need all that drama & I can't believe this show is still on now
- Glee - will totally depend on the new cast, I only watch for Jane Lynch as it is now, I DVR every episode & fast forward through all of the singing.
I'm sure as the spring/summer (off) season gets going some more shows will be added to this list...especially considering all of the Bravo & other reality TV I watch that I'm probably forgetting all about!

Michael Scott's last day
That Mobbed show on FOX hosted by Howie Mandel returns tonight at 9 but I won't be watching that because I'll be watching The Office
& Michael Scott's last day & I just watched the preview (below) and was already practically in tears! I never thought a show like The Office or someone as dumb as Michael Scott would make me cry but I can pretty much guarantee you that I will. Tonight's special episode is extended & will air from 9 to 9:52 followed by a brand new episode of Parks & Recreation that I'm sure will get me back to laughing rather than crying though I do often laugh so hard I start to cry when watching. Anyway, check out the preview below for Goodbye, Michael.

Will Ferrell to be the new temp on The Office
We all know that Steve Carell is leaving The Office
& 4 episodes before the season ends but what we just found out today is that Will Ferrell
will be joining the team for 4 episodes...3 of which Steve will still be there for & 1 after he's left. Ferrell will be playing another inept branch manager sent from home office & in my opinion this could go either way. Steve Carell plays an idiot well but Ferrell is an over-actor who plays great idiots but a bit too much you know? The show & network seem to think that adding him to the cast will boost ratings & help cushion the blow of Carell's departure but really, this show needs to end. Last season was terrible, there was all of 2 funny episodes & so far this season is better but it's still hit or miss & I don't care who they replace Carell with the show has lost its mojo & I don't think any actor could save it at this point. I always loved the show but I would like to see it end before they grasp for more straws trying to amp it back up & undoubtedly run it right into the ground.

Cecilia Halpert arrived!
Jim & Pam had a girl & named her Cecelia which is one of my favorite names for a little girl. The episode was a good one, even without the baby part. Let's recap the fun!
Kevin cooked his way through the Julia Childs cookbook & then moved on to the Twilight cookbook & Pam was more than happy to eat everything he cooked. Michael thinks he's a matchmaker & tried to set up Erin & Kevin & watching that date made me feel like I was on one.
Erin: Are you from around here?
Kevin: Nope
Erin: So you're from somewhere else then?
Kevin: Yep
And of course Kevin thought the date went awesome! At least finally in the end Andy got up the courage to ask Erin out which totally made her day.
While Michael was driving Jam to the hospital he called Dwight to go get Pam's iPod from their house which he of course broke into even though Pam was trying to tell him where the key was hidden, anyway, once inside he started tearing the place apart looking for the iPod but all he found was mold. He got his friends over to the house & ripped out all the cabinets & started replacing them, priceless! Speaking of priceless Dwight...he asked Angela to have a baby with him & they drew up a contract & he doesn't think that adults are supposed to get their teeth cleaned. Oh yeah, he also slept in Jam's bed with no pants (of any kind) on while he was waiting for the crew to arrive to help with the kitchen, I laughed so hard when they showed him getting up & had it all fuzzed out.

The Wedding!!!
So, Jam said I do finally & I loved it, I thought it was super sweet that they took off & got married at the Falls instead of in front of everyone & I also loved Jim's speech at the dinner. All the sweet aside, there were so many things I found hilarious:
Kevin being confused as being Oscar's partner & Oscar freaking out
Kevin's toupee
Dwight's T-shirt with the wolves on it
Dwight's gift of turtle cooking accessories complete with live turtles
Meredith outside smoking her cigar at the church
Everyone puking in the office as Creed ate his pasta
Andy tearing his scrotum
Kevin shoving his feet in the ice machine in the vending room
Kevin's Kleenex shoes that he had to wear because his smelled so bad the hotel threw them away
Phyllis's hat & her comment to Stanley about his wife liking it
Michael's speech at the rehearsal dinner was both funny & uncomfortable, I was laughing & cringing
Everyone doing the dance at the wedding was priceless as well & if you didn't get to see it it's posted below so check it out!

Thursday is busy for TV!!
OMG The Office (ep Gossip) was actually funny!! Last season was kind of disappointing for me but tonight I was laughing quite a bit, Kevin has a person inside of him that runs him with controls, lol!! I love Andy questioning his own sexuality and Angela dating an 80+ year old billionaire guy! My favorite though was Toby being a virgin & then he's like "I have a daughter, how could I be a virgin?" Michael Scott is the most inappropriate person and I love it, he's like a 5 year old in a suit. I really wish that they would have shown a snip of Stanley at the club making out with Cynthia, that would have been freaking hysterical.
